 GET TO KNOW PRF/PRP

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. PRP has been used for many years in many different medical fields. In my medical practice, I have been using PRP since 2016. I have seen the tremendous benefits of the treatment and am very excited to introduce it to my aesthetic clients.

WHAT IS IT, AND HOW DOES IT WORK

.           PRP is the first generation of concentrated platelets aimed at improving/healing tissues. PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) is the newer generation platelet concentrate with a slower spin speed and higher cellular content in the isolate. There is more fibrin present which forms a mesh to help retain the platelets at the injection site.  The platelets being those cells that have the growth factors to be released.

These treatments involve the use of your own blood spun in a centrifuge to separate the components of the blood. This allows for the extraction of essential growth factors and cytokines from activated platelets.  There are many growth factors released but particularly helpful in aesthetics are dermal fibroblasts which induce collagen synthesis.

For orthopedics, IGF-1, CTGF, TGF-B, PDGF, EGF, VEGF help with tendon damage, recruitment of stem cells and cartilage preservation and therefore has the ability to treat osteoarthritis, cartilage loss, tendinopathy (tendinitis), partial ligament, tendon and muscle tears

For those looking for a more natural alternative to cosmetic injections, PRP is a wonderful choice. As this treatment uses only your own blood, the procedure is very safe and eliminates the risk of reaction to the product.

Aside from minor side effects like bruising, mild redness post-procedure and possible pain during the injection; this is a biologic treatment option for clients.

PRF/PRP is used to treat aesthetic concerns (like dark circles under the eyes, hair loss, skin texture/pigment issues, facial volume loss and superficial fine lines) and many orthopedic concerns like musculoskeletal pain.
